Gilda Ochoa, Pomona professor of Chicana/o-Latina/o studies at Pomona College and author of "Becoming Neighbors in a Mexican American Community," will talk about immigration and community organizing in the context of the L.A. County community of La Puente. This case-study approach would allow for an increased awareness of the history of inequality in this predominately Latina/o community, the struggles surrounding immigration and intra-ethnic relationships, and the current organizing for sanctuary in the city and the school district. This program is presented in partnership with the Scripps College Humanities Institute.
