Fady Joudah is a Palestinian-American poet, translator, and physician of internal medicine. His first book, The Earth in the Attic, won the 2007 Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition. In 2010 he received a PEN translation award for his translations of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.

Fady Joudah's book, Alight, is an illuminating exploration of suffering; a palpable wresting of oneself away from the inescapable. The poems collected in Alight flutter between the estranging familial and strangely familiar, echoing Joudah's own role as a father and physician. Dancing between vulnerability and survival, these poems feature children and an enduring will to fully experience like, mirroring the poet's ancestral history of exile and displacement.
